Peace and Envrionment Forum

The Ancient Dragon Zen Gate Peace and Environment Forum begins September 6
Will be held one Sunday each month, 1:30 - 3 pm

September event will be Sunday Sept. 6, 1:30-3 pm, featuring:
Laurel Ross
Urban Conservation Director, The Field Museum
She will speak on: "Chicago Wilderness: Oxymoron?"
What does our great metropolitan region have to offer someone looking to reconnect with nature? More than you may think! Many of us have the impulse to flee to the mountains or forests for a taste of the wild, but there are green pockets of biodiversity, orchids, butterflies, and birds, available in our own backyard. Large cities are arguably the best place to tackle the most challenging conservation problems of our time like global climate change. This non-technical discussion will focus on the positive relationship between people and the rest of life on earth especially right here at home. Laurel Ross is one of the founders of the Chicago Wilderness consortium, an alliance of over 250 organizations dedicated to protecting nature and enriching the quality of life in our region, and a practitioner at Ancient Dragon Zen Gate.

The October event will be:
Sunday October 11, 1:30-3 pm:
Dave Kraft
Director of the Nuclear Energy Information Service, speaking on:
You Can't 'Nuke' Global Climate Change
Global Climate Change is a real danger, now deemed a threat to our security by the Pentagon, but Nuclear Power is Not an option for a healthy, sustainable future. Dave Kraft co-founded the Nuclear Energy Information Service NEIS in 1981 to provide the public with reliable information about nuclear power and radiation hazards, and energy alternatives to nuclear power. He is an experienced organizer who served on numerous advisory groups, task forces, and commissions for which his expertise on nuclear safety, waste, and alternative energy was utilized.
