The next Peace and Environment Forum at Ancient Dragon Zen Gate will be Thursday, November 11, from 7:15 to 8:45 pm. Saman Sepehri will explore what happened to Beyond Petroleum.
British Petroleum promised to move Energy companies "Beyond Petroleum." The Obama administration has expressed concern about climate change and promised to make a transition to a green economy by changing energy policy and creating green jobs for the unemployed, and also introduced tougher 35 MPG fuel efficiency standards. Yet despite the visible influx of "hybrid" cars, there is still a push for more tar sands oil, coal, nuclear energy, and even more off-shore oil drilling, as highlighted by BP's oil disaster in the Gulf.
Are oil resources really dwindling? Is a real change in energy policy coming? What shape will it take? What repercussions will this have for US foreign policy and intervention in places like Iraq or Iran, or for US domestic policy? What can we do?
