Ancient Dragon Zen Gate will host a Sunday morning Zen meditation period and Dharma talk by Kaz Tanahashi, "Dōgen's Shobo Genzo" on Sunday, July 10, from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm. The schedule of the event will be:
8:45 - 9:15 am: Meditation instruction, REQUIRED for participation in meditation events for those who have no previous formal Buddhist meditation experience.
9:30 am: Zen meditation.
10:15 am: Dharma talk, followed by discussion. If you are not attending the prior meditation period, please arrive for the talk by 10:05 am.
Our guest speaker this morning, Kaz Tanahashi, will speak on his new translation of Shōbō Genzō, followed by discussion with Kaz and Shōbō Genzō co-translator Taigen Leighton, and book signing (book copies available for sale). This new landmark translation from Kaz Tanahashi of the entire Shōbō Genzō, the massive masterpiece of the brilliant 13th century Sōtō Zen Founder Eihei Dōgen, is a major achievement and a treasure for all Zen practitioners and students. Kaz will discuss Dōgen and his profound, poetic teachings in Shōbō Genzō.
Kazuaki Tanahashi is an internationally renowned calligrapher, artist, author, translator of Dogen and other Zen texts, and a peace and environmental activist. Kaz is the editor and co-translator of Treasury of the True Dharma Eye: Zen Master Dōgen's Shōbō Genzō.
