Dharma Seminar by Guiding Teacher Taigen Dan Leighton
Taigen will discuss selections from the profound, poetic teachings of 13th century Japanese Zen pioneer, Eihei Dōgen. We will focus on some of his provocative talks in Dōgen's Extensive Record, translated by Taigen. In these colorful talks, Dōgen gives a variety of practical teachings on how to engage and deepen meditative practice, and he also provides guidance for spiritual approach to everyday life. No pre-registration required; everyone welcome. Suggested donation $25; sliding scale available.
Taigen Dan Leighton is a priest and authorized teacher in Shunryu Suzuki Roshi's Soto Zen lineage. Among other books, Taigen is co-translator and editor of Dōgen's Extensive Record; Dōgen's Pure Standards for the Zen Community; and Cultivating the Empty Field; and he authored Faces of Compassion: Classic Bodhisattva Archetypes; and Visions of Awakening Space and Time: Dōgen and the Lotus Sutra. He teaches online at the Institute of Buddhist Studies of the Graduate Theological Union, Berkeley, and at universities in Chicago.
