In memory of Casimir

On February 2nd longtime sangha member and former ADZG board member Casimir Figlewicz passed away. Cas, as he was known to all his friends, was a very active member of the sangha and could always be counted on to arrive early to help setup and stay late to make sure everything was put away. He is also fondly remembered for asking pointed questions during dharma discussions and his presence is dearly missed.

In addition to his many contributions to Ancient Dragon Zen Gate, Cas was also an active volunteer at the North Pond Conservation, the Lincoln Park Shelter for the Homeless, the Bill Jarvis Nature Center, North Park Village Council, and the Open Lands Project. On Sunday May 4 the Bill Jarvis Nature Center planted a shingle oak tree in memory of Cas on the southern outskirts of the Bill Jarvis Nature Center in Chicago's Lincoln Park. A large gathering of Cas' friends and family were on hand to help plant the tree and share stories of his life. Pictures of the event by sangha members are displayed to the left. Cas' brother Ed also took lots of pictures and posted them online.
