Haiku is a Japanese form of poetry that is drawn from direct experience with nature. It is an ancient spiritual practice that is now a worldwide phenomenon. Gyoshin Laurel Ross leads quarterly seasonal nature walks to introduce people to writing in this simple form. All of the walks will be in natural areas and parks on Chicago’s northside.
We will walk in relative silence enjoying whatever Mother Nature has to offer that morning—possibly rain of course. We will carry notebooks, sketch pads or cameras to make notes or sketches of our experiences. Participants will be invited to write haiku at our Lincoln Square zendo afterwards and share them if they wish.
Gyoshin will provide a haiku basic instruction sheet and the location of each meeting place to registered participants.
There is no fee for these walks, but contributions to Ancient Dragon are welcomed. Registration is required to limit the group size to 12. Please register by emailing Gyoshin at laurelmross@gmail.com. Deta
