Sangha Bird & Nature Walk at West Ridge Park

This walk will be led by Lou (they/them), sangha member and an amateur birder who has been formally appreciating birds for over 10 years (and informally all their life). No prior experience with birding is required, only an appreciation for nature. Please bring binoculars if you have (and want to use) them. Lou will bring a couple mini travel binoculars to lend out.
Please join us for a birding and nature walk at West Ridge Nature Park. This 21-acre park was developed by the city in 2015 and now features restored woodland, a 4.5 acre pond, and over 500 native trees and shrubs. We will walk along the trail around the pond, attending to migrating birds and budding spring foliage.
Getting there: West Ridge Nature Park (https://www.chicagoparkdistrict.com/parks-facilities/west-ridge-nature-park) is located at 5801 N. Western Ave, in the northwest corner of Rosehill Cemetery. The park entrance is across from Ardmore Avenue. It is easily accessed by the 49 Western bus. Street parking is available on Western and the side streets to the west of the park. Bike parking is available at stands inside the park entrance.
Meetup point: Meet just inside the park entrance on Western across from Ardmore near the bike stands.
Duration: The walk will last about an hour, though you can leave early if needed or stay longer if desired.
Accessibility & terrain: The terrain is a mix of paved path, mulched/packed dirt path, and boardwalk, all relatively flat. No bathrooms are available.
Dress: Please dress in comfortable weather appropriate clothing and layers. Wear comfortable walking shoes.
Rain or inclement weather will cancel. If the weather looks iffy, please watch your email. If needed, we will send an email to confirm cancellation due to weather at least two hours before the event.
