Zazen and Dharma talk by Guest Teacher Paul Copp: Seals, Metaphors, and How to Read Buddhist Texts

Sunday November 1, 2020 @ 9:30 am - 11:00 am

Dharma talk by Paul Copp, Guest Teacher, “Seals, Metaphors, and How to Read Buddhist Texts.”  Paul is Associate Professor in Chinese Religion and Thought at the University of Chicago. His first book, The Body Incantatory: Spells and the Ritual Imagination in Medieval Chinese Buddhism (Columbia University Press, 2014), is a study of the nature and history of Buddhist incantatory and amuletic practices in Tang China. His main project now is a study of the worlds of 9th and 10th century Chinese Buddhists whose practices are evidenced by manuscripts discovered at Dunhuang, a key city on the eastern end of the Silk Roads. He has also been a serious, if often wayward, student of zazen and the bodhisattva path for nearly 30 years. Sunday Morning Public program in our online Zendo via ZOOM.
