Online seminar by Taigen Leighton on Dogen's Extensive Record, Eihei Koroku. Taigen will give an introduction to this text, one of Dogen's two major massive works along with Shobogenzo. This reading group is open to all. We will be reading aloud together the classic expansive and psychedelic Mahayana Buddhist text, Avatamsaka Sutra (Flower Ornament Sutra). A visionary description of awakening realms and bodhisattva activity, the Flower Ornament Sutra has been a cornerstone of Mahayana literature for approximately 2,000 years and is the inspiration for the Huayan school of Buddhism, which in turn had a foundational influence on the formation of Chan (Zen) Buddhism.
