Today our morning program will include a Children’s event and our special annual Segaki Ceremony for feeding Hungry Ghosts.
All who wish to participate in our programs are asked to attend meditation instruction 8:45 am Sunday, arrive ten minutes before to prepare. (If Sunday mornings are impossible for you, contact
info@ancientdragon.org to arrange another time.)
Zazen meditation starts 9:30 am, arrive at least five minutes before, followed by walking meditation, and this day our special annual Segaki Ceremony for feeding Hungry Ghosts, open to all, at 10:15. This is a Children’s event, with children activities in the kitchen during zazen, then children joining for the Segaki ceremony. This ceremony includes food offerings on the altar, raising hungry ghosts or restless spirits with percussion instruments, chanting ancient dharani spells to pacify the spirits, and readings of the names of sangha family and friends, and culture figures who have passed away in the last year. During the discussion after the ceremony food offerings are shared with the hungry ghosts on our seats. Feel free to bring food offerings or percussion instruments for the ceremony, not required.
