Ayo is a college professor, including at United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities, who teaches pastoral care, counseling, and comparative religion. She has connections with both Vipassana and Soto Zen communities. Among her various books, Ayo is co-editor of Black and Buddhist: What Buddhism Can Teach Us about Race, Resilience, Transformation, and Freedom, and she is co-author of Midwifing—A Womanist Approach to Pastoral Counseling: Investigating the Fractured Self, Slavery, Violence, and the Black Woman.
