Zazen and Dharma Talk by Dale Wright: The Goddess of Freedom
Sunday May 8, 2022 @ 9:30 am - 11:30 am
Dharma talk by Guest Teacher Dale Wright, Emeritus Professor of Religious Studies at Occidental College in L.A. speaking on “The Goddess of Freedom: Reconciling the Discipline of Meditation with Zen Spontaneity.” How does the rigorous practice of meditation–including the difficult tasks of self-awareness and mind control–fit together with the capacities of natural creativity and awakened spontaneity so evident among the great Zen masters? We’ll ask a goddess featured in a famous Mahayana sutra. Dale Wright has authored a number of books, including Living Skillfully: Buddhist Philosophy of Life from the Vimalakirts Sutra and The Six Perfections: Buddhism and the Cultivation of Character. He also co-edited with Steven Heine numerous books on Zen, such as The Koan; Zen Classics, Zen Ritual, and The Zen Canon. Sunday Morning Public Program at Ebenezer Lutheran Church and in our online Zendo via ZOOM.
9:30 am: Zen Meditation (zazen),
10:10 am: Dharma Talk.
